I am in the
beginning of my second trimester, although I don't look pregnant yet,
I feel my clothes getting tighter everyday. I wanted to know if your maternity
clothes would be able to take me all the way to my last month?

Today's maternity
clothing is designed to grow with you. Maternity wear designers are now
using comfortable, yet stylish materials in their lines. The added touch
of lycra or spandex allows the maternity clothing to expand with you,
as you grow.

After
my first outing for maternity apparel, I noticed that there are several
different styles of waistbands. Which ones would you recommend?
|
| A:
|
Each different style
of a waistband has a different fit. Therefore, the style of the
waistband that you choose, when shopping for maternity apparel, will depend
solely on your comfort level. Some examples are:
1). The patented OK waistband
from Japanese Weekend, is worn under the tummy, helping to relieve back
stress and to support your growing belly. Look for the OK style
waistband, denoted with the OK logo.
2). The elastic or drawstring waistband fits either around the middle
of the waist or right above your stomach. This style of fit, doesn't have
a panel, therefore, this style of maternity pant or skirt, can be worn
through out your pregnancy and right after, until you get back into your
pre-pregnancy size. This waistband style allows you to take advantage
of the new shorter style maternity tops.
3). The new look of maternity bottoms, is the panel-less waistband with
elastic and buttons hidden inside. The advantage of this style of maternity
wear is the elastic can be stretched or cinched, allowing for maximum
wear during pregnancy and beyond.
4). The traditional panel waistband. This style is cut full in front and
narrower in the back, covering most of the tummy. The elastic waist fits
over the belly and therefore, does not pull across your stomach. Some
women find this maternity panel, the most comfortable, as there is not
waistband directly on or below the stomach.

Pre-pregnancy, I
was a size 8, what size maternity clothing do I need to purchase?
|
| A:
|
Maternity clothing
is generally made to fit your pre-pregnancy size, with accommodations
for your growing shape. Many women do not realize that purchasing larger
size, non-maternity apparel or borrowing their husbands "big shirts" in
reality makes the mom-to-be appear to be larger then she really is. Properly
sized maternity clothing will not only make you feel better, but also
will make you look better. So do not hold off, purchasing those stylish
maternity clothes.

I divide my
time between office and home and love dressing up on weekends, how do
I update my old maternity wardrobe and maximize my investment, when purchasing
maternity clothing? |
| A:
|
The key is to start
slowly, and add to your existing wardrobe as you grow and the weather
changes. Start with a few of the seasons necessary basics, such as, a
great pair of Capri's, a comfortable pair of shorts, paired with several
of this seasons hottest colored tops, turquoise and orange would be a
great start. For the office, several great three piece suits, consisting
of a jacket, skirt, and pant, combined with colorful light weight blouses,
that can be worn under the jacket or by themselves; choose colors that
can be mixed and matched easily, therefore, creating many different updated
maternity looks.
For the evening look, the "basic
black dress" never goes out of style. A nice pair of lightweight, yet
dressy pants, paired with the "in blouse of the season" makes for a great
evening look.
